“I was surprised when you told me you wanted me to uncollar you,” Mydei murmurs. “I’ve never seen you without it… but I’ve always been curious.” One finger stops at his left shoulder and taps at the single point of Phainon’s tattoo that peaks out from under the leather. “You’ve got something here, don’t you? Something even I’m not allowed to see.”
Phainon is losing his mind, the promise of the collar coming off so close. “You can see,” he whimpers.
“Can I, now? Who else got here before me? Lady Aglaea?” Phainon is shaking his head. “Lady Castorice?”
“No,” Phainon pleads. Which is a lie, but he just wants Mydei to remove that wretched article, replace it with his teeth, sink in deep– ...
“It’s alright,” Mydei murmurs, even as his eyes remain dangerous, scent tinged with a metal edge. “Because the way I get to have you now is something no one else ever has or will.”

In fairness, there was precious little Phainon was truly able to think about when he had his knees pushed up to his ears, thighs straining from him effectively being folded in half, legs unable to find purchase and his fingers rending stalks of wheat from the earth.
He could barely breathe—but whether that was owed to the position he was in, or for the fact that he'd simply forgotten how, remained uncertain. Sharp, loud gasps escaped him as tears bled down his cheeks and his lips parted on each choked sound.
Carrying the eggs of a vidyadhara to term was not on Phainon's bucket list.

Under the gaze of eternal light, a fading sun is eclipsed by the silhouette of a hefty man.
“Deliverer, your blows are weaker as of late. Why?” In response, the usually chipper and sharp-tounged man is oddly quiet.
Phainon’s internal excuses for his feebleness are clear: training harder than ever, stretching himself thinner than a golden thread, forgetting needs as basic as eating…wait, when was the last meal he had? Deep down, however, he knows his exhaustion - and related symptoms - goes far beyond physical inadequacies. Of course, he decides to play his emotions off again.
“Weaker? Mydei, were you n-” Before a taunt could force its way out, his stomach finishes his sentence with a mortifying growl. It makes a smaller sound soon after: perhaps due to the queasiness under the heat of a molten glare.
“Get up.” The lift of Mydei’s heel only mildly relieves the pressure in Phainon’s chest. “Go bandage your wounds and bathe; meet me at my quarters afterwards.” Many thoughts - primarily of confusion - race through Phainon’s head.
“Oh? You don’t plan to join me on the walk there?” Mydei huffs.
“HKS, our evening meal won’t cook itself.” Huh? “You can’t fight well on an empty stomach.”
