Summary
Hank starts to feel a bit silly as he enters the garden gate and sees the other visitors: young professionals looking for a quiet spot to eat their takeaway lunches, nannies chatting while the toddlers in their care peer wide-eyed at a cluster of crocuses, a group of elderly women strolling slowly along the path. He feels out of place, and as he stops to admire a huge patch of daffodils, butter-yellow and delicate pale peach, he has the sudden conviction that it's ridiculous for him to be here at all. For him to want to appreciate something beautiful for a moment.
Hank ventures into a public garden on his lunch break and runs across an android gardener who's friendly and more than a little forward. He's not looking for romance, but maybe he's stumbling into it, all the same.

Summary
“STERN!” Hank Anderson bellows from his front porch when his dog Sumo comes limping up the gravel drive. He knows the whelp of a rancher can’t hear him across all his acres, but still. It feels good to release his rage at the man.
Everything had been fine until Mr. Toothpick and his too clean shoes bought the property across the way. Hank wasn’t even sure what the point of the land was to the man. From what he’d heard, Connor Stern was a city slicker that would sooner kiss a pig than perform manual labor.
__Connor and Hank meet and strike up a feud on the same day. Things get interesting when Connor hurts himself on the job and Hank learns he is Connor's emergency contact.

Hosea took another drink of his beer next to him, eyes cast across the lake and Arthur followed, watching the early evening insects skit across the surface. Just waiting to be eaten by the swirls of fish flitting through the waters below them.
Hosea broke the silence, “You seem...Happier recently.”
Arthur didn’t know how to respond for a brief moment, so he stumbled over a couple of vowels before Hosea’s laugh was settling him and he said slowly, “I suppose I am? Nothing much though.”
Hosea’s eyes didn’t leave the rhythmic lapping of the lake against the dock, but the way his mouth curled, Arthur knew that he was about to be perhaps a bit too smart.
