Emma laughed, shaking her head in a way that told him she was about to tease him. “Gosh, if you hate this place so much, why did you stay hidden for two entire weeks here? Just to, what, make the surprise extra surprising for me? Should I be touched?”
Paul knew this was coming. He was never gonna live this down, even if he wasn’t technically... living, anymore. Emma was never one to be stopped by technicalities anyway.

The problem with that has many names- three in fact. Names he can’t get rid of cause they’re his family and he’d rather die again then let them get hurt. He can’t be there all the time, though, and it’s not like Bats can take care of them in his absence.
Or, Jason will always be protective over his siblings, even if he wished he wasn't.

He yelps, instinctively swinging his arm forward and hitting her over the head with the frying pan again. He really needs to stop having a fight or flight reaction that results in knocking people out, that definitely won’t make them want to kick his ass any less than—judging by the girl’s expression—they probably already do.

The stranger looks from David’s hand up to his eyes thoughtfully, like he might finally be starting to clue in that he’s wading into piranha-infested waters. But after only a moment’s hesitation, he takes David’s offered hand in a surprisingly strong grip, giving it a single pump. “Michael.”
“Michael,” David echoes, grinning. He tries to take his hand back, but Michael doesn’t let go right away. For a second, he thinks Michael’s not going to. He gives a harder tug, and a flash of surprise zips through him when Michael’s grip doesn’t so much as shift. The uneasy thought shivers through David’s mind that maybe Michael let him catch his wrist, when he made that grab for the Triumph.
That maybe if Michael had really wanted to take the bike, David couldn’t have stopped him.
