It occurs to Ren then, after he caught Dan Heng researching Vidyadhara biology on the Data Bank, plus some memories that resurfaced involving Dan Feng acting the same way in the past, that it could be only one answer that he overlooked. It seemed Dan Heng was experiencing or about to experience a heat, and in his desire to not bother Ren about it, he became overly affectionate and scented Ren in order to help him cope with it. Prior to reconciling with him, Dan Heng has not acted like this before, so Ren can only assume that after their reconciliation, these feelings returned as his mind and body now knew he had a “mate.”
Ren discovers Dan Heng is in heat and helps him through it.

The grip on his sword falters when his fingertips harrow with frostbite once more. Metal clangs to the ground. Blade’s lips stubbornly try to hide the quiver overtaking. He reeks of pride.
“You need me. It’s best you don’t deny it,” Dan Heng’s tone turns commanding, coming naturally to him in a way he can’t describe.
On a freezing planet where they’ve crossed paths, Blade suffers from hypothermia, and Dan Heng has a solution.

Sometimes he feels as if Blade does not realize the effect his voice has on him. In fact, he fears one day the man would ask to kill for him, and if he did it in that sultry voice, he’d unavoidably commit the sin. Worse would be if Blade does realize the effect it has on him. Then, it would just be him utilizing his weakness to make him do things he would have rejected in the past.
Like now, when Blade situates himself on his lap and smirks at him.
“You have been working all day,” he states the obvious, trailing his hands down his chest. “You haven’t been paying attention to me. Don’t you know how much that… bothers a man like me?”

Dan Heng’s nonchalant attitude towards Ren dressing up for him often gives Ren a slight anxiety, but he often shows his true feelings through his actions. Right now, he is forcing himself to hold back. He has showed his fangs multiple times, but hidden them afterwards. Ren wants to tell him that there is no need for him to do so and his neck is ready.
“I can smell your eagerness,” Dan Heng shows his fangs again. “I have room for more.”
Dan Heng drinks from his favorite bloodbag, and proceeds to reduce him to nothing more than his plaything.
