Summary
Shane Hollander could categorize almost every shade of Ilya Rozanov's eyes. Shane knew what blue meant Ilya was going to pull Hayden's pigtails for the umpteenth time, and what blue meant Ilya was ready to drop gloves. A few shades escaped his classification, like the peculiar shade of blue Ilya's eyes turned for the split second Shane caught him staring at him every now and again. But most importantly, Shane knew what it meant when he watched the blue fade out of Ilya’s eyes and turn a fathomless silvery grey.
Ilya Rozanov was going to die.
Soon.
Unless Shane could figure out a way to stop it.
Shane, like all of the oldest (or only) children in his family, was gifted with the ability to see imminent death. "The Grey" his mother told him. Actually, no, it was a curse because once he saw someone's eyes turn grey, it was anywhere between days or weeks before that person ultimately died. Tragically.
Or,
The one where Shane is the only one who knows Ilya is about to die, and he has to find a way to stop it, or die trying.

Summary
Shane Hollander shows up to university excited for another year of being the best at what he does. Unfortunately, the man who beat him at last year's World Prospect Cup is also there, and Ilya Rozanov hasn't gotten any less annoying. Or any worse at hockey.

The stranger’s eyes are dark, but the flickering light of the oil sconce on the wall catches in their depths and there’s a wickedness there that immediately makes Steve freeze up. In a split second, the man steps back and slips a slender hand into his coat, withdrawing a gleaming brass-colored pistol. “I know,” he says, and Steve’s not sure how someone can sound so fucking casual when they're holding a gun and pointing it at his forehead, holy shit. “You might want to step back, man. Wouldn’t want to waste a bullet blowing off a face as pretty as yours.”
(Or: Steve Harrington is given a second chance at life when he's kidnapped and held for ransom at the mercy of a roguish young pirate—one that he might be falling a little bit in love with.)
