”Doesn’t it feel good to imagine leaving all those infuriating, self-centred bastards in their horrible fancy clothes just dripping? Cold water in their trousers, no more smug looks-“ he stops. “Zolf, I think I finally understand you.”
Zolf snorts. “Glad to hear you’ve made it.”
“You know me darling, fashionably late or nothing,” Wilde says, eyes twinkling. “If I remember correctly we had to take a detour through the Northern Wastes, forgive me if I’m arriving a bit behind schedule.”
Darling. He’s been doing that a lot recently. Zolf hasn’t commented on it, but not because he doesn’t want to.

“So we trauma-bonded, good for us! Baring our souls to one another-“ Wilde makes an ungainly grab for the pen, and Zolf holds it out of his reach.
“It’s like a bloody Campbell novel.” Zolf gives Wilde a helpless look. “And you don’t, you don’t even care if I kiss you?”

Perhaps, she realizes belatedly, he is uncomfortable on top of everything else.

Summary
Lost and alone at the end of the world, Jon decides to try one last idea. It goes wrong, as his ideas usually do, when both the Web and the Spiral decide to interfere with what he's doing. For once the disaster goes his favor. Mostly.
He wouldn't have chosen to go back in time to when he was eight years old. He certainly wouldn't have chosen to catch Elias freaking Bouchard's attention before he's had a chance to do anything. And he cannot believe that his luck is so monumentally bad that he gets adopted by the man who wants to use him to end the world.
Jon has to figure out how to keep Elias away, while saving his friends and the world. And hopefully growing old enough that he can go anywhere on his own and be taken seriously.

Rule one: He could not lose control.
Rule two: He could not give up in his search for Lup.
Rule three: He could not let Lucretia go through with her plan.
And finally, probably the hardest one to keep by far,Rule four: He could not see his family.
Attacking a cooking show assistant in the back of a small caravan, Barry blows his last rule out of the goddamn water. And then he keeps breaking it. It might just be worth it though. Even without his memories, Barry could use Taako's help now more than ever.
