“Don’t touch me. Also, this is pathetic. You’re all pathetic. Todd, your face still twitches when someone says the word ‘crowbar.’”
“Do not start with me, gremlin.”

“Oh yeah? Say goodbye to your ability to produce heirs—”
Jason’s foot shot out. It didn’t connect with Damian because Tim, always the unlucky soul, stepped forward at the worst possible second.

Tim crossed his arms. “Oh, I forgot. We’re not supposed to talk about the time you tried to kill me at the Tower, right? You know, back when you were having your charming homicidal renaissance?”
Jason’s entire face went still.
Dick set down the plate. Slowly. “Guys—”
“You really want to bring that up?” Jason’s voice was low, tight. “You think I don’t remember? You think I forget that I nearly made the worst mistake of my life?”
“Funny, I thought that was the jacket.”
“Screw you.”
“I was fifteen!” Tim’s voice cracked slightly, high with fury. “I trusted you!”

His mom sighed and crossed the kitchen, reracking them like Tim had committed a federal crime. “Why do you always do things your way?” she muttered.
“Because I’m a trailblazer, Mother. An innovator.”
“Because he’s too full of ego,” she said, not even looking at him. Just casually, like she was commenting on the weather or that the chicken needed more salt.
Tim froze with the Tupperware lid in his hand. “I’m sorry, what now?”

Tim blinked blearily at him. “What?”
“You were grinding. Like full-on 'nails on a chalkboard' kind of thing. I thought the couch was possessed or something.”
Dick sat up, hair a mess, rubbing his eyes. “Yeah, you do that. You've always kind of… clenched your jaw in your sleep. Thought it was just a stress thing.”
Tim slowly sat up. “Wait—what do you mean always?”

“Jellyfish!” Dick yelped. “One touched my leg!”
Tim made a disgusted noise and pointed accusingly. “See? That’s why the ocean is a mistake.”
“It wasn’t even a real sting!” Jason howled with laughter, doubling over as Dick shot him an offended glare.
“You weren’t there! It had tentacles!”
“Everything in the ocean has tentacles, Goldfish Brain.”
Meanwhile, Damian, still watching from the side, tilted his head. “Drake is right. This place is full of threats.”
Tim preened. “Thank you, Damian.”
“I say we take over the lifeguard tower and declare this land ours.”
“…Okay, maybe not that.”
Bruce groaned into his hands.

Then, to Tim’s absolute shock, Jason reached for the protein bar and tore off a piece.

Tim blinked. "What are you—"
"Eat with me," Jason said simply. "I know it sucks. But you’ve gotta eat, and if it makes it easier—" He held out another piece. "We do it together."

Tim shut his eyes for a second, focusing on the words. His fingers clenched into the fabric of his jeans.
"I don’t hate you," Jason repeated. "Bruce doesn’t hate you. Dick doesn’t hate you. Alfred would probably smack you upside the head for even thinking it."
Tim huffed out something like a laugh, weak and uneven.
