Summary
When Dib turned 18, he made a deal with his father: he would give up his paranormal research, go off to university, and work at Membrane Labs; in return, he would never have to worry about money ever again. It’s been a few years now, and Dib has completed his side of the deal early. Now he’s stuck working in a sterile, boring laboratory studying whatever it is his father assigns him.
Things come to a head, however, when Dib is knocked overboard while on a marine expedition and is subsequently rescued by an eccentric pair of old men. Soon enough, Dib finds himself spinning a web of lies that leads him to a sleepy town known only as Gravity Falls.
All to study mushrooms of course. Or at least that’s the reason his father thinks Dib is so keen on exploring this small town in the middle of nowhere. No other reason…

Following the events of Ten Minutes to Doom, after having the PAK attached to him, using his body as a host, Dib comes to a conclusion that the device is essentially a parasite.
Because of this newfound revelation, Dib starts seeing Zim in a different light, as a victim of sorts, to this mind altering machine.

“Zib…?” He asked softly.
“Are you sleeping well Dib? I’ll give you another dosage in a moment, just relax, you’ll be asleep soon.”
“Zib…?! It is you! But I thought Zim erased all alternative timelines!” Dib was fully awake now, and he began to struggle against the restraints. He recognized the shape and the build of the ship, this was an Irken carrier ship. Zib must have stolen it.
“Please do not tire yourself out Dib. It’s much easier if you simply relax and cooperate, but the more you struggle the harder the entire procedure will be. I’m sure you have questions, and I will answer them, but for now you need to relax. I don’t want this to be painful for you.” Zib said. The screen he was pressing on vanished, Dib could see the outline of Zib’s PAK on his head, with a cable running down under his jacket.

Dib's heart was pounding erratically now; he felt himself shaking to the tips of his fingers and toes. He licked his dry lips with a sandpaper tongue and called out, except that his cry came out as a soft, squeaky whisper from his rapidly constricting throat.
"...Mom?"
On Halloween night, the Membrane household gets an unexpected visitor.

Summary
After graduating high school Dib takes on an internship at Mysterious Mysteries and starts his life as a paranormal investigator! After suffering a brutal attack Dib is left emotionally and physically scarred, and Zim doesn't know how to help. Like he really wants to but humans are weird and oddly emotional and he's trying his best. Dibs is bad at expressing emotions so the whole thing is just a mess. Please know that there's going to be some blood/gore in here! I will include warnings before the chapters, but please don't read if you're sensitive to that stuff! There will also be no smut, but definitely lotsa of snuggles and fluff!
