Warm and content, Castiel and Dean are enjoying a domestic night in. Dean plays his video game (that Castiel knows nothing about), while Cas ponders their dinner plans. And their relationship. Cas is happy, he truly is, and, to be honest, he wants to spend the rest of his life with Dean. He just... He needs those three little words. Because, god, he doesn't think he can be the one to say them first.
Dean's not paying enough attention and lets something slip.

Summary
Cas looks even more tired than Dean feels. His eyes are red and the bags under them are more prominent than ever. His hair is a hot mess, reminding Dean of the time when Cas was still able to take off any second with just a flick of his wings. The cut on his neck is covered with a white bandage now and he wears different clothes, a gray sweatpants and a black shirt with a hole on the collar, that Dean recognizes as one of his. It makes him look different. It makes him look soft.
Dean likes it a lot.

Cas is back and that is great. Except that it worries Dean how much Cas struggles to adjust to humanity, haunted by nightmares and memories every night. So it's just a gesture of their friendship, despite Castiel's feelings for him, when Dean offers Cas to stay with him at night.

“You’ll be here all week? Terrible that you’re workin’ on Valentine’s Day,” Doris tuts disapprovingly, “you ought to be spendin’ it with your special someone.”
“I ain’t got a special someone right now,” Dean assures her kindly, leaning back in his chair, tapping the table that separates him from Doris and her husband, “and I don’t mind working.”
“Well, of course you do!” Doris exclaims.
“I work most holidays, I really don’t mind –”
“No, you’ve got a special someone,” Doris corrects, eyeing him critically, smirking in a way that crinkles all of her many wrinkles, “a woman like me can tell.”

Summary
When Castiel was ten years old, he was cursed to always be obedient.
Now he’s a hunter—not the best one at his job, admittedly, since he’s always forced to comply with the monsters that beg for their life.
Everything changes on one such hunt, when an angel named Dean saves his life, and tells Castiel that he’s searching for his missing brother, Sam. His naive callousness about humans and give-em-Hell attitude is off-putting, but Dean ends up being exactly what Castiel didn’t know he needed.
As he grows closer to Dean, he tries to keep the secret of the curse close to his chest—but the past always has a way of exposing the truth.

Wherein Dean makes a hefty living as a tattoo artist who owns the space next to Gabriel's cafe. Sam attends the local university. When Gabe's cousin comes to live with him while starting grad school at Sam's university, Dean thinks for sure that all his negative karma's coming to bite him in the ass because Cas clearly has a thing for Sam. No one would ever choose him over Sam. That's just logic.
