“Shadow, not Sonic,” He corrects, speaking slowly so he might be easier to process. “Are you alright?”
“Oh…” She drifts a bit more, line of sight just over his shoulder. “I’m fine!”
That seems like a rehearsed phrase. She sounds slightly more present when saying it, but doesn’t look like it – she has practice.

Amy went to the hospital knowing it wouldn't be pleasant.
She'd heard the stories. Vanilla had been institutionalized as a teenager, and sometimes on late nights she talked about it before she sent Amy home. About voluntary entries and involuntary holds, about loss of privacy and loss of autonomy, about sleeping on the floor from sedative medications and being accused of mania when they wore off, about being trapped.
Still, she didn’t have any better option.

Riley liked staying in the castles! They were nice, and isolated, and while some kids came back there they were usually quieter than the kids running and screaming around the rest of the place, and nobody could see her unless she wanted them to.
It also meant that when she started hearing screaming, scared screams instead of the usual excitement, she was able to hide.
(Nearly every child in the Daycare was murdered on July 16th.)

He held onto hope that maybe, just maybe, his boyfriend wouldn’t be the dramatic idiot he was and wouldn’t emerge from the shadows like some kind of evil villain in front of a group of heavily armed and trigger happy heroes. He hoped that Shadow would have a scrap of common sense not to jump him the minute he came back. Those like you, those who share the blood of the goddess and the spirit of the hero, they are eternally bound to this curse. An incarnation of my hatred shall ever follow your kind, dooming them to wander a blood-soaked sea of darkness for all time.
This is the curse that has bound Link's soul to Zelda's bloodline, to Hyrule, and to malice for thousands of years. It is through this curse that he is born again, and again, and again, the same soul worn down into something harder and more serious with every passing generation. With every evil that Link defeats, he grows wearier and more determined, and by all rights that should be the end of it.
Then a portal through time opens, from one Master Sword chamber to another. And Ocarina meets another Link for the first time.
Four years later, Wild's portal finally opens, and as a collective they decide that this curse needs to be cut off... before it gets any worse than it had for Wild.
