He shook their joined hands lightly. "I saved you, Mike Wheeler, because you're my best friend."

Summary
'Damn it, Parker was right." Nathan sighed, but he was smiling, and the German Shepard's tail started wagging at his voice. Nathan studied the dog, looking for anything that would define him as unusual. Despite his brief alarm, and the lingering thought in the back of his mind warning him this was a trouble-made animal, Nathan used both hands and carded his fingers through the dog's fur, petting along his neck, rubbing the bases of his ears. It'd been a long time since he'd felt a dog's fur.
The dog didn't seem to mind, making a low, pleased sounding rumble in his chest, pressing into the touch as he looked for a collar. There was no obvious brightly colored nylon or leather, but a glint amongst the dark hair on the dog's chest caught his eye. When Nathan found and lifted a cord from the dense fur, a gunmetal whistle swung forward.
Nathan dropped his hands. He looked in the dog's eyes. They were dark, far darker than a dog's normally should be. He breathed a long breath out his nose, resigned.

"I was trying to figure out why he wasn't bleeding a whole lot when I killed him." Malia said, kicking the guy's shin with the toe of her boot. Her eyes raised to meet Chris'. She hadn't been uneasy or afraid of him when they'd met, even when Scott told her what he used to do. She'd nodded readily enough, and when Chris had looked at her, questioning, she'd met his gaze, shrugged, and said rather nonchalantly, "Thought you were a wolf when you came in. You smell like the tall one and act like one."
"Actually," Chris began, looking down at the body, pale and crumpled on the forest floor. "I think I did."

“Is it cause you used to have a crush on me?” Mike asked, abruptly.
“What!” It was Will’s turn to blush harder, giving him a glare reserved for Mike Wheeler and Mike Wheeler only. “No. God. That was ages ago. I’ve been past that for a long time.”
Mike motioned like he’d made his point. “See? So? It wouldn’t be weird.”
So, Mike likes guys. Fine, Will can live with that. Except now Mike's worried about having fallen behind and would really like some help practicing how to kiss a guy from his also-into-guys best friend. And Will is trying really, really hard to be a good mentor to him, so what is he going to do, say no?

“Mr. Byers! I was hoping to catch you. This is Dr. Owens, from Hawkins National Laboratory.”
Will pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance, already feeling a headache beginning to form in his temples. "I’m kind of in the middle of a lecture here, can this wait?”
“I’m afraid it can’t. We need your assistance urgently.”
“And why do you need me?” Will was unable to suppress the bitterness in his tone, “You’ve got plenty of experts and doctors on your staff. I’m just a grad student, and I’m halfway across the country. What could I possibly do that no one else could?”
Dr. Owens cleared his throat on the other end of the line, “You’re the only one who’s been there and made it out alive. Honestly, we could use your expertise. We’ve caught a specimen. A live one. And you’re definitely going to want to see this.”
Or, it's 1998 and the Upside Down is still alive and kicking, and something new just came out.

Summary
"Is Will your boyfriend?" Holly asks, and Mike immediately chokes on the lettuce in his mouth.
"Wh- what?" he gasps, dropping his fork and swallowing back the salad that suddenly feels like cement in his throat. Holly's looking at him with a strange expression, like she's trying to figure something out.
"Will. Is he your boyfriend?" she repeats, even though Mike very obviously heard her, and the question doesn't feel any less shocking the second time.
"No!" He yelps. "No, why would you think that?"
Holly shrugs, taking another bite of spaghetti like this is a normal conversation and she is not slowly killing him. "Nancy calls him your little boyfriend sometimes, and Mom says he's your person, which basically means the same thing, and you live together and act like a couple and unpack groceries together, and- I don't know. Seems like it could be a thing."

Summary
The demogorgon is lifeless, and Will’s never seemed so full of it. He unfurls his hands and lifts his head to meet Mike’s waiting eye, and—for a long while, he just stares, knuckles smearing blood across his upper lip, headlights painting him golden.
I love you, Mike thinks fleetingly, then pitches forward and pukes onto the street.
Mike has a concussion—and a few other issues. Set after the events of Chapter Four: Sorcerer.
