Galinda Upland let out a primordial shriek, sobbing with terror and jubilation, hugging her knees closer to her chest. They were having a baby. She was going to be a mother.
Alas, there were no books on how to help a woman as stubborn as Elphaba Thropp through her pregnancy, especially when said woman was adamantly and steadfastly refusing any and all assistance whatsoever.
or, in other words: elphaba thropp is easy to love but hard to take care of, since no one has ever cared for her before. as her pregnancy progresses, galinda upland tries her damndest to do both anyways.

For the first time, Galinda sat down in the room, on the armchair across from Elphaba’s desk. She perched on the very edge of it with her legs primly crossed at the ankles, as if she was preparing to run. Galinda’s sunburn bloomed a soft pink on the high arc of her cheekbones, the bridge of her nose… which was dotted with freckles, as Elphaba would have noticed if she’d cared to look more closely. Galinda’s summer dress hung loosely over her legs.
With great effort, Elphaba averted her gaze.--

She didn’t even really ask a question when she told Elphaba what she’d done, when she told her about the house, the biggest purchase of her life: a safe place; a place where, if she’s horrendibly honest, she imagines that maybe they could grow old. Galinda never saw the appeal of it before, of the ache in her bones or the aging lines on her face.
But looking in the mirror lately, they’re there— and she doesn’t hate it. She doesn’t hate knowing she’s changed. That they both have.
(Or, a post-canon fix-it. Elphaba comes back to her. Galinda buys them a house. The eroticism of a gentle life.)
