Of course Gwaine isn’t the only one to see something special in Arthur’s manservant, to be drawn to those laughing gray-blue eyes and the promise that gleams there like a secret door in children’s fairy stories, like the blank spaces at the edges of a map, like a sign that says be wary, ye travelers, for wonders and terrors await.
Or, washed up in Camelot, Gwaine helps Merlin pick a flower, and along the way, tries and fails to sabotage the best thing he has going for him.
