If he’d known it would be like this – so natural despite what should have been incompatible, so intoxicating despite their differences – he would have pursued her as soon as she rescued him from Omega.
And then, even after he knew she was interested, he’d still put it off. He’d thought that saving it for a special night would make it more meaningful for both of them. But by doing that, he’d run the not-inconsequential risk of it being their only night together. What a fool he would have been. Had been. Was being.

It seems as if he’s embarrassed by his confession, but she knows better. She knows him. He doesn’t see any point in shying away from the truth.
She reaches over to slide her palm against his, threading their fingers together, and he lifts the back of her hand to brush her lips to her skin in a kiss. “It’s hard to balance,” she agrees, voice soft. “But it’s also worth it.”
