“Hey! No saying sorry! It’s not like me taking us off the path is your fault!” Satoru forces a laugh, and when it echoes back to him, he’s relieved to hear that it sounds almost genuine. Kitamoto will probably be able to tell, but not gentle, lonely Natsume, whose distant expression seems to soften when he turns to look at Satoru.
His eyes are warm and familiar and nothing at all like the glassy, doll-like gaze he used to watch the world with. He meets Satoru’s curious look head on, like he’s searching for a map out of this stupid, creepy forest inside his eyes. A small smile twitches at the corners of his mouth, though it is miles away from happy.
“This isn’t your fault either, you know,” he murmurs as he holds Satoru’s eyes, and wow, apparently he was all wrong about Natsume not being able to tell, after all. That’s embarrassing.

The king stood up fully. Dark Cacao leaned down for a full bow, deep, and honorable. As the prince of such a tough kingdom should.
“Go, son. Make your kingdom proud.” The king bellowed, patting his son on the shoulder as servants rushed a full body mirror away. Dark Cacao nodded, adjusting his crown to sit high upon his head.
He hoisted himself, high upon a mighty, dark stallion. A warhorse, to be exact. He gave one last glance to his father and a respectful nod before the steed set off, outside the castle gates at Cacao’s command.
The cold castle gates slammed shut behind him, and as the choco-stone tiled bridge laid itself in front of him he looked around. The licorice sea, swirling and swarming with little eyes and limbs just beneath the surface, and the wilderness in front of him reminded him that outside the citadel walls, he was truly on his own now.
He was a warrior. He’d have to prove so.
