Summary
The way the light bounced off the lake made Shane think of Rozanov’s eyes.
It was beyond stupid — blue eyes weren’t exactly uncommon, and what the hell was Shane even doing, thinking about that asshole in the first place? — but the thought kept popping up; when he stepped out onto the back deck with his coffee, as he hauled the paddleboard down to the dock, during his morning run along the rocky shoreline.
Maybe it was the way the sunlit water danced around, never quite letting Shane’s gaze focus on it for more than a moment. Or maybe it was because it was so dazzling, impossible to stare at for too long without feeling like you were looking directly into the sun itself, overwhelmed with the force of it. Looking at Rozanov felt kind of like that. Like if you didn’t tear your eyes away in time, soon you’d be blind to anything else.
