“In light of the unwavering dedication and hard work of General Kujou Sara has shown for the Shogunate, Her Excellency, the Almighty Narukami Ogosho, God of Thunder, has decreed that General Kujou Sara will be awarded a gift, of her choosing, for her service.”
It wasn’t unheard of for the Raiden Shogun to reward those in her service. There would be a ceremony to honour the fallen and acknowledge the living. Usually, rewards were things like mora or jewels, weapons or rare tomes. On the even rarer occasion, she allowed those of great importance or honour to choose the reward, a choice that tradition dictated that she would not deny.
Given the honour of such a gift, Sara struggles with choosing an appropriate gift- the struggle is only made harder when she realizes that her choice would reflect not only on herself but on the Raiden Shogun as well. But how does she choose something when she has never wanted for anything?
(And the one thing she does want, she doesn't deserve.)

After learning of Ei’s eternal battle with the Shogun, Sara finds herself agreeing with Guuji Yae for the first time. Ei finds a reason for her girlfriends to kiss.
“Ei,” Sara says to her god. “Why won’t you look at me?”
The Archon closes her eyes and sighs, “I didn’t want to burden you after all the hard work you’ve put in today-”
“You weren’t ever going to tell her,” Yae interjects with an eye roll.
“What happened?” Sara asks. She clasps Ei’s hands tighter, imploring her to look her in the eyes, “Please, tell me the truth.” She doesn’t want to be left in the dark again.
“I battled with the Shogun,” Ei admits.
Sara stares at her, “What?”
Or, learning that your girlfriend could have died battling herself for a thousand years is as good a reason as any to get drunk.
