Eddie’s never been very good at the whole scent thing.
He knows there’s a difference between scents and smells—Steve can smell like sweaty pits after a run but he scents something spicy and woodsy all the time—but he doesn’t understand the nuance of a person’s scent. It can fluctuate based on emotions, or the time of year, or because Eddie bought a carton of six eggs and not the dozen like Steve asked; Nancy is good at understanding the subtleties, and Steve too, but Eddie’s just never been able to.
So when Steve starts smelling different, he chalks it up to a new deodorant or something in the shower. It’s not a bad scent, like the time he had appendicitis and kept saying he was just constipated, it’s just different. Noticeable.
