He was an idiot, a fool, for ever thinking that he could train his mate in how to be a fully functioning human in a week- when his mate still struggled with basic merfolk concepts. He’d never forgotten his first impression of Neil - the first time they had been placed together for the Hunt, who had stared blankly in confusion when the head of the Hunt, an Elder, no less, had asked him what colony he was representing and Neil had basically flipped her off in merspeak.

Draco stands outside the library for a moment, before he turns the handle and pushes the heavy double doors open. What he expects to find is a silent library cloaked in darkness. What he gets instead is a fire crackling merrily away in the grate, the library lit only by firelight, and Potter lounging on the fur rug in front of the fireplace, clad only in a terry-cloth bathrobe, a glass of wine in one hand.
“What the… Potter—!” Draco yelps, and Potter looks up from the book open in front of him and raises an eyebrow at Draco.

Harry’s eyebrows furrowed as he looked over at Ron, who was pointing to the big screen. Harry looked up to see an image of him and Draco with their hands still clasped in a handshake. Harry quickly dropped Draco’s hand and turned to Malone.
“You said the kiss cam was enchanted to find people with the most chemistry.” Harry said, almost accusatory.
“Yeah.” Malone said, looking between Harry and Draco, up at the big screen, then back at Harry. “I did.”

Malfoy turned at the sound, his sharp eyes narrowing as Harry absentmindedly drummed a beat against his knee to match the melody. The rhythm faltered as Malfoy stepped closer and toward him until he was standing right over Harry, looking down on him. Without a word, he crouched down before Harry—one knee bent, the other folded beneath him.
Harry blinked, staring up at Malfoy, their faces now barely an inch apart. In the dim light, Malfoy’s expression was unreadable—almost menacing—as he studied Harry in silence.
“Do you know where we are?” he asked, his voice low, measured.
Harry frowned at the peculiar weight in his tone, but before he could answer, Malfoy repeated himself, slower this time. “Do you know what this place is? Whose house this was?”
“No. Do you?”
~Two days after escaping a cursed house with Malfoy, two things happen: first, Harry notices Draco’s untied shoelaces. Second, everything changes.
