Steve isn’t sure what it is about him that screams “safe” to queer people but at this point he’d kind of like to find out. Obviously Robin had been a fluke, there had been literal truth serum involved. But this? If three is a pattern then what the hell is four? Five? Seven? He'd very much like to know what it is about him, but all Robin will say is "it's the hair" and he's pretty sure that's not right. Probably.

El acknowledges his greeting with an expression that’s more grimace than smile. Her eyes drift mindfully over Max’s body. “No change?”
Lucas shakes his head. El pushes the door back behind her and approaches, taking her place in the empty chair. She moves the same way he does— like she’s barely awake, just going through the motions. Lucas can’t help staring as she reaches forward and wraps her hand around Max’s fingers, running her thumb over the cast and scanning every bit of her unresponsive face. She looks how he feels, too. They both do.
