Summary
Warren didn’t consider himself a nosy person. He liked his secrets, and other people liked theirs, and he was fine with that. But the curiosity was something else. It drew him to Will, to his tense shoulders and Layla’s anxious rambles of Will having been a person of tactile affection but he almost snapped a table when she went to put her hand on his shoulder, and, staring at Will now, even he felt unsettled. The boy was taking shallow, quiet breaths, staring past the floor and into something else, somewhere else, sometime else.

Summary
The Squawk had become their cover, their communication hub, their war room. Robin did the actual broadcasts mostly playing music and reading pre-written community updates approved by the military presence in town, but the real purpose was the coded messages. Steve had helped her set up the whole system, spending hours figuring out how to get all the sound effects she wanted, taping things to walls and attempting to MacGyver random things around the station.
That was just who Steve was, but looking around the room now, Robin wondered more and more if anyone else actually saw that.

He throws the car in park and removes the key before leaning forward slightly to rest his forehead on the steering wheel. The car shakes as the kids scramble out of it and slam the doors closed behind them. Each resulting WHAM sets off fireworks behind Steve’s closed eyelids.
He just needs a minute. One minute of silence. Then, he’ll go inside to wrangle the kids and clean up before Mrs. Byers gets back.
A hand lands on his shoulder and he jumps into an upright position. The abrupt motion sends pain flooding over the left-side of his head and down through his neck and shoulders. He presses a hand into his left eyebrow, trying to chase the pain away with the pressure.
Dustin still sits in the passenger seat next to him. His hand tightens on his shoulder, eyes blown wide.
“Steve, hey, you okay?”

If you had asked Steve Harrington five years ago what he would be doing after high school, he would have believed wholeheartedly that he would be following in the path his father laid out before him. At age 20, however, Steve found himself breaking free of the mould he had been raised to fit.
His closest friends were a bunch of nerdy children he babysat, the girl he had thought he was going to marry had broken up with him (and he was glad she did), he had been rejected from every university he applied to, he was working a minimum wage job, and he was fresh off the back of his third near-apocalypse.
With the Spring Break of '86 on the horizon, Steve can't help but let himself feel hopeful. After all, how much worse can things get?or
