Summary
Vash has a new upstairs neighbor he hasn't met yet but has heard moving boxes around and occasionally some swearing and a loud thump. Normal move-in stuff. He’s curious but wants to give the new guy a chance to settle in before introducing himself. It's on the third night after move-in that Vash hears a series of alarming crashes, some very creative swearing, and then dead silence.

“Up for a drinking game tonight?”
“Sure,” Vash chirped as he eagerly stood with a smile, “I don’t think I have a deck of cards though…”
The bottle of whiskey was set on the table before Wolfwood slumped into one of the chairs, “doesn’t hafta be a car game. We can play Eye Spy, or Never Have I Ever or somethin’.”
Vash sheepishly smiled before asking, “how do you play Never Have I Ever?”
Vash and Wolfwood try to unwind on ship 3 with a drinking game. Against his better judgement, Vash reveals a truth about himself that he would have preferred to keep a secret. At least from Wolfwood, given the feelings he'd been harboring for him since they met. But maybe it wasn't a mistake to let the cat out of the bag. To Vash's surprise, Wolfwood tries to offer a solution that could relieve the ache deep in Vash's core, or break his heart. The offer is too good to not take that gamble.

Wolfwood drew out the first word. “So, is that what you’d do? Come sit on my porch with our cat?”
Vash smiled. Tears stung his eyes. “If you'll have me.”
“‘Course! Plenty of room for ya both. Just imagine it! Wouldn't it be nice?”
Vash closed his eyes. He tried to lose himself to his imagination, conjuring up the scene of a porch swing, a brightly colored kitchen, a plush couch; Wolfwood driving up the road on his motorcycle, healthy and radiant, then cooking later and singing along to the radio.
It would be nice.
OR: Vash and Wolfwood are captured by men after the bounty. Trapped in the back of a truck, hurt and restrained, they dream and make promises.

Without a word, Wolfwood stepped into Vash’s room, closing the door behind himself. He heard the automatic lock engage, the same soft whirr that the one in his room made, but it was quiet, lost under the sound of his own pulse tripping with the way Vash boxed him in against the door.
“Missed you.”Maybe it's the honeymoon phase, maybe it's just the thrill of sneaking around. There's something about Vash saying he missed him after only an hour that gets Wolfwood's pulse thumping.

Summary
Vash does a good job of pretending to be human. Not that he’s trying to pretend. Vash is probably the most genuine and peace-loving idiot amongst humanity on this shitty planet and he shows more emotion than half of the people they come across. And continues to do so despite all the scars and shit he’s been through. It can be hard to see past the mask if you aren’t around him long enough—probably a reason why Vash doesn’t hang around a town for too long.
Hiding on the other hand, Wolfwood can assume Vash does not want his inhumanity to be known, which is something can Wolfwood emphasizes, having his own past demons. It became an unspoken rule to Wolfwood to not talk or think about Vash’s inhumanity and also pretend Vash was more human than Plant.
Wolfwood didn’t think one of the many hidden Plant abilities would include this of all things.

At first, he'd assumed the man was playing coy with him. He felt like he'd been fairly obvious with getting just a little closer than he might usually, risking a few little touches and glances he normally wouldn't dream of. And Wolfwood does pay such close attention to him. It felt like he'd see it from a mile away.
