Summary
Is it okay for me to live?
Hinami's words had echoed in Kaneki's mind ever since that day. His future as a ghoul stretched out before him without an end. He'd have to survive off the deaths of others until the day he would eventually be discovered as a ghoul and most likely killed. He didn't dare talk to about it to anyone, not when he'd be placing such a burden on another or when Touka would beat the shit out of him for inadvertently calling her life hopeless as well, but one day he found himself lost in thought while walking. He just didn't realize he'd been standing on train tracks when he'd paused to mull it over.
Amon had saved hundreds of people over the years, but always from ghouls and not from themselves. When he pushed a Kami student out of the way from a train, he had no idea how to proceed. Despite being known for his more sensitive nature at the CCG, he had no idea how to deal with someone who had little hope for life left. It wasn't like he was feeling much better after Mado's death, either. Yet somehow he clicked with Kaneki, and slowly but surely, he made his first friend disconnected from the ghoul world.

Summary
Amon's mind has been swirling with questions he'd never once thought of after his encounter with Eyepatch. He has no one to talk to or explore them with, so instead they fester inside his mind alongside his grief over his mentor. When he rescues a university student from a ghoul attack, he finds an unlikely friendship with them as they discuss their differing ideas on the personhood of ghouls. Even though it isn't Eyepatch and Amon outwardly argues that ghouls are nothing more than monsters, he finds himself listening to the naïve student as they answer Amon's burning questions one by one.
Kaneki knows how stupid it is to form a friendship with a dove, much less have talks over coffee about his own right to live and exist, but he still finds himself looking forward to their conversations. Amon didn't recognize him without the mask, and while the investigator would never listen to a ghoul, the radical ideas of a 'human' university student could worm their way inside the investigator's head instead. Maybe it would all come crashing down when Kaneki would inevitably be found out, maybe he wasn't capable of making enough of a difference to change their world, but he had to try. It was something only he could do.

Summary
Something in Rex's chest had jumped alive when Invincible came crashing through the HQ roof, already torn ragged and snarling like a cornered dog, and he feels it now, a bloated pressure against his ribcage, squirming, hungry. The deep throb of his pulse.
Cecil's thumb, held tight over the clicker. The distorted bow of Invincible's body. And then: what came after.
Truthfully, Rex hasn't thought of Invincible as a boy scout for a while, now.
