Phil’s answer is quiet with exhaustion and muffled by Dan’s chest, but Dan hears him loud and clear.

In 2009, certified loverboy Dan Howell crosses the country to spend Christmas with his boyfriend of two months and his family. He discovers that the Lester family handles the holidays differently than Dan's family does.
In 2025, Dan and Phil invite their families to spend Christmas in the house they built.

“Never.” Phil brushes a rogue curl, dampened by the earlier sea breeze they had been battered by, out of Dan’s eyes.
“Our seventeenth Christmas together,” Dan whispers.
“I love you,” Phil replies.

Dan and Phil have spent seventeen Christmases together, not all of them have been perfect, but they've made it.

Dean laughed. "Yeah, I bet you do."

Castiel never told him about where they were going, or how long they would be driving in the first place. Castiel never let him sit behind the wheel, and never spoke a word to him other than if he was hungry or needed to stop for a few minutes.
