It’s an awful plan, if he thinks about it, because there are so many variables that might backfire. Maybe Rapunzel will make it back on the ship somehow, or worse, Andrew or one of the others. Maybe his calculations are wrong (which is why he’s in this situation in the first place, after all) and the Quirineon will explode before it gets the ship up high enough.
Maybe he doesn’t want to die.

Trousseau shook his head, as though it would help let those memories fade. There was no point in thinking about this, when there was nothing he could do about it. He’d leave his colleagues to treat the symptoms of this decaying world.

He never had a problem with following through, so when Jouno joins the Hunting Dogs, it's naturally easy to tell that there's no way he is his soulmate. Or so he thought, anyway. -

It was rare to see Tecchou get truly angry.
Jouno would know. After all this time he’d spent trying to provoke his partner, challenging some petty fights just for the sake of it, all of which ended in a lecture from his commander at most. But Tecchou would never get angry; serious, firm, and maybe even annoyed at times, but never angry. In fact, Jouno could only recall a handful of times where he witnessed his partner raise his voice out of a negative emotion at all.
So maybe, Jouno could have felt proud of it, had it happened at any other moment. Maybe it would have felt like an achievement if it hadn’t been for the context, and if his words hadn’t hurt so much.

After the Hunting Dogs got disbanded, Jouno and Tecchou have to deal with the effects of not receiving surgeries anymore. It takes a toll on them, physically and mentally. -
