Summary
At the tender age of nine Rhaenyra Targaryen fell in love.
...the young Targaryen was startled out of her daydreams, of slinging guns and riding wild stallions, captivated by the sound of the most pure and melodious voice to ever grace the earth. Looking up she traced the source to a breathtakingly beautiful little girl with long auburn locks and eyes the color of shining emeralds. Jesus and scripture may never lead her down the path to salvation, but the sublime grace and enchanting charm of that choir girl was enough to convince her right then and there that heaven did exist. From that day forward, each Sunday, she would eagerly await her parents at the bottom of the stairs, already dressed and washed with a bible tucked dutifully under her arm. For months her mother feared that her daughter was ill, or quite possibly possessed. Perhaps she was because the spirit of Alicent Hightower had all but consumed her soul the moment she laid eyes on her.

Two of the kingdom's dragonriders are at Driftmark. Another drowns himself in ale and whores.
And the last- they say she sails above the sea to Dragonstone and then beyond, a girl clinging to her back.
No one would recognize the dragonrider, what with her silver locks tucked beneath a boy's cap and her gowns left far, far behind.
The dragonrider herself is dressed in the clothing that was laid out on her bed, the servant's clothes that were left to tempt her to leave the Red Keep behind and finally take her uncle as the lover- and eventual husband- that he had sought all along.
Her uncle's gift has been used to get her closer to a lover, yes- just mayhaps not the one intended.
There will be legends, on this night, about the Queen who seduced the Princess, about the Wayward Princess who cemented herself in Targaryen history beyond the pale of even Saera Targaryen herself, because for all her scandal, Saera didn’t take a dragon with her when she left.
(Alicent comes to Rhaenyra in the middle of the night to ask for forgiveness and for death, but regardless of their differences, Rhaenyra is not ready to let her former best friend become a ghost- unless they do it together.)
