There was silence on the other end of the line. It lasted so long that Steve pulled the receiver away from his ear and frowned at it. Pay phones were old. Maybe this one wasn’t working despite the obvious dial tone when he picked up.
“Ok,” a stranger’s voice said over the phone. “First acknowledge the fact that you dialed the wrong number, but be quick about it because my cab is a few blocks away from my own plans and I’m about to drop some truth bombs on you.”

Summary
After Sarah leaves for college, Tommy drags Joel out to a bar where he meets a girl who needs his help. Pure fluff, no dystopia, no infected, a story that answers the question: what would dating for Joel be like in the era of text messages and cell phones? As this is an alternate universe, I have taken authorial license with Ellie's timeline and age.

Tommy stopped getting his hopes up about Joel a long, long time ago, but he can’t stop his mind from racing as he scrambles down from the watchtower. Can’t stop himself from thinking it’s about damn time Joel came home, that of course this would be the only reason he could. Can’t help wondering what took so long or why he never heard anything about it.
Or: It's a Tommy POV fic! Examining Ellie and Joel's bond from his POV, and his own growing relationship with Ellie.

If Harry had to guess which out of he or his Auror Partner, and tentative new friend, Draco Malfoy, would turn out to have Veela ancestry, his answer would be: neither, because that is ridiculous. Finding out the answer is actually him, and that his Veela heritage is wreaking havoc on his ability to work, sleep, and above all be in the same room as Malfoy, is a surprise to say the least.
