The man’s dark eyes meet hers as he grips the knife tight in his hand, long red hair framing his pale face.

“What’s your biggest regret?” Rita. “If I told you that you could fix that,” Debra starts and he feels this thrum through his body, this longing, this sense of urgency, “For another you.”
That small sense of hope dwindles at her words as she holds her hand palm out.
“Not you. A different you. Younger,” she says, “One that hasn’t gone through all the bullshit. You can either go back in your body-” Debra motions down to him, “-and try and live out the rest of this already shit life, or you can go back and fix it for him, would you do it?”

Summary
All written under the guise that: Rita never called Dexter back and gave him a second chance. Because he sees no benefit in continuing on without her and the kids in his life, things take a dramatic turn when he comes out to Debra as The Bay Harbor Butcher.
This also leans into the idea of things that quiet the voices in his head. Lila was able to do it… why can’t he find someone that does that for him? Someone that has that affect that isn’t completely toxic?
