Summary
Steve pulls out an honest-to-god napkin from his pocket, and Bucky stands there, questioning his reality, as Steve dabs the soft fabric over his mouth and chin, wiping off the mess he made.
But it can’t wipe away Bucky’s reddened lips and flushed cheeks, can it? It can’t heal the bruised ache of his throat and the hot throb between his legs, in his ass.
Knowing Steve, he doesn’t want to.
“As good as it gets,” Steve says, tucking the napkin away and pulling up his own pants, making himself presentable as if this is nothing out of the ordinary. “Maybe they’ll know with one look at you, but well, can’t say I mind.” He pats down his jacket and raises his eyes to Bucky, and his smile’s still wide but his eyes are piercing. “Do you? Walking around with your mouth showing exactly what it can do.”
“Steve,” Bucky breathes. There’s no other word in his head.
“It’s mine,” Steve says, pecking Bucky sweetly on the lips. “This pretty mouth. Everything it can do. All mine.”
“Yes,” Bucky agrees helplessly. “Yes, of course, yes.”

He is, indeed, lying down on the couch, but he looks like he’s been shot with a tranquilizer gun. He’s facedown, his flesh arm twisted underneath him at a weird, painful-looking angle, his metal arm thrown up over the arm of the couch, holding the book open. A few of its pages are crumpled in the grip of his metal fingers. His legs are stretched out, but only one is on the couch– his right leg is hanging over the side and his knee is resting on the floor. His face is planted flat in a crack between the cushions and his hair is in disarray.
Steve shoots to his feet and feels adrenaline flood his system. His first thought is sniper! but there’s no blood, no visible injuries, and no broken glass or other signs of violence. He slides his hand around Bucky’s neck, under his hair, and feels his pulse, slow and steady. At this moment, Bucky starts to snore softly into the crack.

Welcome to the 4 Minute Window Advent calendar for 2021! ( *boggles*) As always, my goal is to tell a little bit of story each day (knock wood) between the Immaculate Conception and Christmas. Explicit eventually, the rest as it comes. Times being what they are, we might be even more loosey-goosey than normal. There are few rituals among the girls of the Red Room, and fewer still that retain some innocence, but this is one of them. The Widows play with each others’ hair, combing and curling and brushing and braiding. It’s a practical enough pastime that the handlers have never cracked down on it, though they have looked askance whenever the Widows get too creative with their makeshift hairdressing.
Five times someone braids Yelena's hair, and one time she braids someone else's.
