Some things got easier over time. Suguru knew the rules. He was getting better at being "normal." He knew how to avoid notice and keep that notice positive when it was unavoidable.
Then he met Gojo Satoru— He was arrogant, occasionally cruel, and the most annoying person Suguru ever had the displeasure of meeting.

He went out of his way to talk to Suguru every day and tried to meet him by chance. He’d go to shower at the same time, go into the kitchen to eat at the same time, and step out of his room when he heard Suguru’s door. Initially, Suguru responded politely and reservedly, seemingly not interested in being friends. But Satoru refused to give up.
—Satoru has a lot of feelings about Suguru. That's just friendship, right? Suguru is his first friend and his best friend. So these feelings and desires are just due to friendship. As Satoru and Suguru go from first years at Jujutsu High to adulthood, they learn to be sorcerers, friends, and how to love each other.

"Go ahead, don't poke your eye out." He waves a hand, beginning to turn back to his work when Satoru speaks up.
"Not on me, on you." He points the eyeliner at him.
"Oh," Suguru says simply.
Satoru wants to do his eyeliner.
"Yeah, Oh." Satoru teases, "Why would I want to do it on me?" he laughs for some reason, finding that idea amusing, as if he wouldn't look incredible in it.
"I thought you were curious." Suguru defends himself weakly because maybe he was projecting a little of his desire to see the boy in eyeliner rather than following the actual conversation.
