Rio knew from the second she felt the boy’s soul he would die. He was a small fragment of life, a flicker of a soul inhabiting her wife’s body, and she knew he would never live outside of it. She didn't say this. She smiled and said, congratulations my love and hoped Agatha couldn't see the haunting in her eyes. And she prayed. For the first time in her life, she prayed to anybody who would listen. She prayed as if her words would make his soul whole again, would anchor him to the earth. She prayed knowing it was a lost cause. She prayed because she knew that this loss would tear them both from her.

It was a Wednesday night and Rio had read the same line three times. She had the beginnings of a headache and discussion points due for a seminar tomorrow. The unofficial cut off for loud music and parties on a weekday was 11pm. Mostly, the university were quite relaxed about it, but Rio had a reputation for keeping her charges in line. Most of the first years were scared of her; which meant she had them exactly where she wanted them.
But this girl? This girl was her biggest challenge yet.
Rio didn’t even need to go over there to know who was causing this.

Agatha had always had a temper. She’d grown up in screaming matches with her mother, she’d been kicked out of school, she’d been fired from jobs for being too difficult. She tried to keep a handle on it these days, she went to therapy once a week, she was the lead singer in a band where she got to scream her heart out, and she had Rio to think about. But she still had a reputation as a bad boy. On more than one occasion she’d broken the paparazzi’s cameras, and she’d had a very public fight with a man outside one of their concerts who’d tried to grab at her bandmate, Alice. That being said, she was trying to be good. Agatha Harkness could be good, or at least she hoped she could.

Nedley’s gone AWOL, she can’t find the key to that one desk drawer that has all the important papers in it, and the phone rings off the hook all day long. She gets called out to a case that turns out to be prank, and when she returns Lonnie tells her that an important visitor had come and gone, but he failed to get a name or reason as to why he was there or even a message for Nicole whatsoever. She resists yelling at him. She has a pointless argument with a citizen over a neighbour’s cat that was apparently ruining the neighbourhood atmosphere.
Needless to say, it has been a stressful day.
