When Madara awoke, he had expected darkness.
Caught off guard on a mission gone awry, injured, and trapped in a blizzard, he had been easy pickings for a party of Hagoromo Kekeii Genkai traders. Though he put up a fight, it was ultimately useless. He was poisoned, his eyes taken, and then left to bleed out in the snow. He had expected death at best, and blindness at worst.
He had not expected to wake up in his clan's medical ward, eyes still fixed in his skull, healed, and with a fresh soul mark on his cheek.

Summary
Rusty keeps having dreams. Dreams about hunting and fighting, but mostly about cats. Cats he's never met, who he can never remember properly upon waking up, but who feel as real and important as anything else in his life. He's willing to do whatever it takes to figure out what these dreams mean, even if it means abandoning his old life for a new one in the wild.

“So I’m to be bait,” Akechi says flatly. “You’re serving me up.”
Ren can feel the grin on his face, and he can’t stop it. “I gotta open the store tomorrow, I only serve coffee.”
“Absolutely idiotic. Why would I agree to that?"
Ren shrugs one shoulder and leans back against the movie theater wall, smiling. He’s feeling light on his feet right now. It’s been a bad day, but the end is nice. “Call it penance.”
“Penance for what,” Akechi says.
His smile stays where it is as he glances away for a moment, then meets Akechi’s eyes again. “Being yourself.”

Summer vacation back in Tokyo was supposed to be two things: an exciting break from the mundanity of home, and a chance to see people he's missed so much it hurts. If he survives, Ren has good news for himself on both.
