Katara had never left Sokka before, had never imagined having to separate herself from Aang or Toph — but, on the other hand, she had also never planned to get eaten by a sea serpent at the ripe old age of nineteen, so she ignored the agony in her leg, turned her back on the others, and ran as fast as she could.
It was just temporary, she reminded herself. She would get to the city just a few days after them, tops.

But on the journey to her wedding, the Fire Nation intercepts her, and she falls into the hands of the Fire Lord’s sons. Yet something very strange happens to Prince Zuko when he sees her for the first time.

He’s spent months living off the memory of her smile, turning away like it was the suns glare and he only deserved to be burned. Now he stares at it, lungs shriveling the longer he forgets to breath. Wasn't he supposed to be doing something? He can’t remember. Can’t remember his own name, let alone pay attention to a nagging voice that sounds a lot like Azula’s.
