That meant Jason was back to square one: if he wasn’t in the Underworld, where the fuck was he?
Was this some sort of memory from his past? He still hadn’t fully recovered from Juno’s brain wipe, unlike Percy, so he couldn’t be entirely sure. Was it a vision of what his future could’ve been like if he hadn’t died? Possibly? Although, he wasn’t exactly sure why his future included some random river that he had never seen before in his life—
His train of thought was interrupted by a small splash.
Jason turned to see where it had come from. There, sitting by the edge of the water to his right, knees to chest, was a figure. They had their back toward to him, so he couldn’t quite see their face, but he could recognize the combination of tanned skin, brown curls, and bright yellow toolbelt anywhere.
“Leo,” he breathed.

Or, Jason is stuck as a ghost in the living world and can't enter the Underworld until he resolves his Unfinished Business: confessing his feelings to Leo

A year after Gaia kills Leo's mother she messes with him more. She puts him in the lotus casino. Afterall if the person who was meant to defeat you was too young to do so. How would he, and who would let him? Well, some other messed up crazy kids probably couldn't stop him if they tried.
When Percy and his friends go into the lotus they meet a little boy who is strangely untrusting of the adults there. He only talks to them for a few seconds asking if they brought any food or supplies in with them, but Percy has a weird feeling about them.
