Summary
When Mike thought nothing could get worse, Fate took it up as a challenge.
But now, instead of being hunted by the Mind Flayer, Mike's own body is his biggest enemy. He gets diagnosed with cancer. But he's fine. He'll just deal with this on his own. His mom and Nancy are enough. He can deal with the whirlwind of doctors and needles and IVs and feelings as long as his friends are happy. As long as they don't realize that even after all they've been through, one of them is still dying.
But the upside-down isn't done yet. As Mike goes crazy over his feelings for Will, it strikes again. How is Mike going to survive this next attack, now by a human-turned monster named Vecna, when he is already fighting his own personal battle? But more importantly, how is Mike going to confront his feelings for Will in this chaos?

Mike get diagnosed with cancer, deals with vecna, and is in love with will byers. Not necessarily in that order. But hey, everythings alright in the end!

“No!” Lucas’s voice cracked, and he grabbed Mike’s hand, holding it tightly. “Tell me who did this. Please.”
Mike’s resolve crumbled, and he lashed out, yanking his hand back. “Your stupid basketball friends, okay?” he shouted. “Your amazing, perfect friends beat the shit out of me!”

Summary
The thing that Dustin never realized was that Mike was the glue to the party. When Will had left for California, the party still stood, when he was at summer camp, the party still stood, and when Lucas was gone for basketball practice, the party still stood. When it broke up from Max and El, it still stood strong because it was Mike who held them together. He had said that at his funeral, that despite everything they’d gone through, all their struggles and turmoils, Mike held them together because that’s who he was.
It was woefully ironic that the one person who had to be out of Hawkins when the Upside Down came back was killed in California by a government agent.
