Summary
"A prisoner of fate" is a statement that would best define Howard Lotor. Cursed with an eldritch affliction that was never going to leave him as long as he drew breath, never in his wildest dreams could he imagine that this monster would condemn him to rot in a void, after disobeying it and foiling its plans to take John Blacksad as its own.
Staking the last of his identity into an unlikely object, it falls into the hands of an imprisoned lone tiger past his prime, seeking to serve his time quietly as a fearsome reputation preceeded him. The fateful arrival of a young fox starts a series of strange events that will reluctantly have him assist in the fox's plans to escape, as the tiger becomes haunted by visions of a nameless, mangy raccoon in a trenchcoat, warning him of an imminent attempt on his life, forcing him to take action and get to the bottom of it all.

Summary
A mysterious raccoon appears comatose near John Blacksad's office, without identification or a single penny to his name. In the raccoon's hand was a worn business card that led to him.
Who is he, and what is his connection to the detective? Why Blacksad, of all people?
Meanwhile, a series of gruesome murders inflame tensions between two warring factions of the Irish mob, and will soon lead to an all-out gang war, threatening to pull Blacksad and his friends into the fray.
The raccoon might be the key to stopping the conflict, but in doing so, a series of grave consequences will follow.
Takes place between Red Soul and A Silent Hell. Spoilers abound for Backbone, as it explains a good chunk of the plot for the unfamiliar.

Fanmade continuation of Backbone. Following the fallout from The Artifact, Private Investigator Howard Lotor finds himself thrust into a life filled with opportunity, where one must play both sides to guarantee their survival. However, he owes an unpayable debt to a particular Clarissa Bloodworth, who convinced Renee Wilson to take a deal that would guarantee Howard's survival. Now tools ready for Clarissa to command and recently recovered from the plague which was The Artifact, Howard and Renee find themselves formalising their partnership in a rather personal way before they look ahead towards the future... Towards becoming scourges that lay within the bowels of Vancouver.
