“I don’t know, man,” Robby says. He leans back against Jack’s couch, legs spread, head tipped back, hand scratching at his beard. He came over here for beer and baseball, but now he’s opening up his mouth to talk about shit. He doesn’t know how Jack does it.
Jack nods. He watches Robby, gaze knowing, eyes tracking Robby’s movements. Robby remembers when Jack used to look. That was a long time ago.

“Sweetheart! I’m so glad you’re here,” Jack’s mother said, walking across the carpet in a hurry. “I was so worried about—oh!” She stopped midsentence, looking at Robby, who stood by Jack’s side. She turned back to Jack. “I must have misunderstood. When you asked to bring an important friend with you, I’d taken that to mean you had a new woman in your life.”
Jack could almost hear the quotes around “important friend” and flushed, glad he couldn’t see Robby’s reaction to his mother’s declaration.

Summary
Jack’s mouth feels dry all of a sudden and he’s got half a mind on how extremely fuckable Robby looks about now, and idly he daydreams about it. He’s somewhere between wondering if his legs were as damn long as they look and if he can convince Robby to put his book review on hold on hold for the morning so Jack can blow him when the bubble pops the moment he catches the expectant look on Robby’s face as he raises his brows and looks over at him.
“-You rescheduled that PT appointment?”
Jack blinks, swallows some, and as he snaps back to focus, he’s treated to the look of bemused curiosity that crosses Robby’s face.
“Ground control to Major Tom?”
