Summary

One of the best, if not THE BEST, 2Gether fanfics I've ever read. The plot, the many arcs, and the way that the characters are fleshed out and unraveled as the story progressed blew me away. In another life, perhaps, with Qin Huaizhang still alive, Siji Manor and its disciples unmarred by the brambles of the Imperial court’s reach, Zhou Zishu could have truly settled into the skin of that serious-faced, soft-eyed First Disciple, still sharp-tongued but gentled by the cocoon of warmth of a manor never lacking in laughter. In another life, where Zhen Yan was not the name of a boy who died too young and was called, lovingly, in its diminutive by his parents and later, Qin-shushu and Qin-ayi when they visited Siji Manor during cherished trips out from the Healers’ Valley.
Or, it is almost Qingming and Zhou Zishu makes good on his promise to accompany Wen Kexing back to his parents' old house. Orienting oneself in the murky riverbed of grief takes time, as does learning to wear love like a well-worn robe over one’s shoulders.

But what if the cunning had been turned on him, and on Ghost Valley? Hadn’t Mo Huaiyang wanted the spot of the supreme leader, and had called Kexing out in front of everyone before Ye Baiyi stopped him?
Maybe he was being paranoid. But he had survived because he had been paranoid and counting on others’ worst intentions all his life. He shouldn’t stop now, not when everything was going so well for the first time.
