    Peter snorts and pushes off the doorframe. “Steve didn’t tell me shit,” he says. “And even if he did, I do what I want. So if I wanted to sit around with all you people and play Settlers of Catan while eating homemade pretzels, I would. But I don’t, so I don’t. You are a roof over my head and food on my plate. Other than that, you can all leave me the hell alone.” He turns and the bedroom door slams.
    “Is that right,” Tony tells the closed door, setting his hands on his hips. “Oh, we’ll see about that.”
    Mission. Freaking. Acquired.
    Also, homemade pretzels sounds like a great idea.

    When the Avengers go to Kenya on a Goodwill mission, naturally disaster strikes. And with communication down, Peter is left with nothing to do but wait for news and is forced to really confront just how important Tony is to him in his life.

    Tony: Something’s happening, I don’t know what yet. Cell towers are down, but hopefully this manages to get through. We’re ok, just stuck in the hotel for now. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get through again. You gotta tell Peter- I don’t want him finding out online. Tell him not to worry and that I’ll be home as soon as I can. Keep him safe for me.     After the incident with the Vulture, despite turning down Tony’s offer to join the Avengers, Peter’s path is still entwined with that of his childhood hero. From mentor to family, neither Tony nor Peter’s life will ever be the same.

    Tony hummed slightly. “Where are you hurt?”
    Peter opened his mouth to reply, but Tony held up a gloved hand.
    “Before you answer, remember that both Karen and FRIDAY can tell me exactly where you’re hurt, and it’s just the graciousness of who I am as a person that I’m asking you directly. Remember this graciousness before you lie to me.”
    Peter scowled faintly, fairly certain that Tony was prone to playing down his own injuries all the time.

    Peter learned a long time ago that he wasn’t going to be adopted.

    He learned it when May and Ben sat him down and explained that they were just his uncle and aunt and he couldn’t call them his parents at school anymore. He learned it after the third family left the group home without him. He learned it after he was rejected time and time again for showing up with bruised cheeks and secret wounds that told people that he was a fighter and he could never say he was a crime fighter.

    Peter Parker doesn’t need to be adopted. He has accepted that by now. He’s sixteen years old and knows that he only has two more years before he can be on his own. He’s looking forward to getting out of the system. He’s looking forward to being independent.
