Annie banged the table, waking Pierce up. “Can you two please focus?!”
“Annie, sweetie, I’m trying my best to get the group to come to their senses,” Shirley soothed. “I think if you could just briefly control your anger...”
Annie scoffed. “You’re one to talk about controlling your anger.”
Shirley briefly bristled before going back to her sweetsy tone. “Yes, I understand that I have had some trouble controlling my anger in the past, but, I do my best.” She glared at Annie. “But I can make an exception right now if you keep up with that language.”Or: Annie gets very angry when the study group slacks off during a study session for their final Anthropology exam.

Britta looks to her left, before leaning back, concerned. This one tall, old woman lies stretched on a red and white chase long, eyes closed, singing a pop song to herself. There was something in the air that night... She’s slightly twisted towards Britta, her arms drooping towards the ground, as if she’s prepared herself to be taken. Is she waiting for Britta to get up from her blanket? Does she know? No, she’s just sunbathing. Her arms are just tired. Can’t a nice old lady sing to herself without worrying about people judging her? Hm, guess it was nothing.
Or: While waiting for the flood to come, Britta sinks into the rough fur of her towel. But something's not quite right. Is someone staring at her?

Summary
I set myself a challenge to write seven Jeff-and-Annie one-shots, each based around a deadly sin, all beginning with the phrase "what the hell" (the place you go if you collect all seven!). They're not in any particular order, sometimes they contradict each other, and the sinning tends to overlap, but I had fun! Posted every-other day until complete. :-)

“If you like,” Frankie says carefully, “I could reach out to her. But if Annie is hiding something, I’m confident that she has a good reason.”
Britta nods, determined. “I think we should tread lightly. I can handle that.” Once again, Frankie seems pleased by Britta’s answer, and, once again, Britta gets a rush of satisfaction.
“I think that would be best,” Frankie says. “I truly am sorry that I have a lot of work to do, and don’t have more time for catching up. It’s been a pleasure seeing you, Britta. I do hope you’ll be back soon.” She seems genuinely sorry to be sending her out, and it occurs to Britta that Frankie might actually be lonely.
“Good seeing you, Frankie,” Britta says. Then she thinks about the way Frankie said the word pleasure. When she’s out in the parking lot, she catches herself trying the word out on her lips.

A little lost in a new and settled life, accustomed to playing the therapist, Britta Perry gets wrapped up in an A-plot that's all about her friends. Frankie helps her learn something about being the main character in her own life.
