There’s something wrong with Will.
It started three weeks ago, almost four. Will had woken from some sort of nightmare and, instead of seeking comfort in Mike the way he usually would, he’d rolled out a sleeping bag from the closet and chosen to sleep on the floor.
No one believes Mike, except for Joyce. But even she doesn’t understand the full extent to which something is wrong with Will.
Mike understands, though. Mike has been paying attention.

Summary
Will's a true sorcerer. Right after the truth comes to light in the middle of a battlefield, Mike Wheeler finds himself more amazed and enamored with Will than he'd like to admit. However, they don't have time to celebrate the peace, because not much after that, Vecna comes back, determined to take what Will loves the most if he isn't by his side in this war. The Demos try to take Mike, but right before he enters the Upside Down, Will jumps and goes with him.
They're together now. In the Upside Down. But they're alone too, with a long journey ahead of them. Mike knows nothing can go wrong. After all, the only thing Will has accepted is that now he has powers, right?

So shiny that Will can see himself, tipsy and happy, in the reflection. “I want to be stuck with you,” Mike whispers, like it’s a secret. “I don’t ever want to leave.”
Will sucks in a sharp breath, squeezing his hands. “Then don’t,” he whispers back, punched-out and honest. “Stay.”

“I didn’t break the cup.” He said more intently, picturing the mug whole and unbroken, the radio station logo that was plastered on the side uncracked.
And as he willed it, it was.
He blinked and the glass was gone like it had never been there, and there was a whole coffee mug sitting on the table in front of him when he looked down. It was sitting on the table like it had never left, the wet pool of cold coffee from before was gone and in its place was a rich brown cup of coffee, steaming lightly in the nighttime chill.
“What the fuck?” Someone said, disbelief coloring their tone and all Mike could do was stare downwards, a fresh wave of blood leaking from his nose.
“I didn't break the cup.” He echoed himself emptily, words a tad disbelieving.
He looked up then, taking in the stunned and worried faces that were surrounding the table and by proxy, him.
He pressed his fingers to his nose, eyes slipping downwards to look at the wet red that stained his fingertips and looking back up.

Will Montgomery-Byers is getting really tired of these nightmares.
Every month of the anniversary, without fail, Will gets nightmares. It’s been, what, seven years since it all started? Seven since it started, and three since it ended. He’s moved on—he really has. At this point, it’s just annoying.
But no matter how annoying it may be, he still wakes up screaming.
For a moment, he wakes up to the Upside Down—everything’s blue and abandoned and terrifying. At this point, he knows it’s not real, but the sight still terrifies him nonetheless.
His voice comes out trembling, cracking. “Mike…?”

Mike and Will's sophomore year at NYU is going as well as expected--with a few exceptions, of course, because what are their lives without exceptions?

Continues immediately after the events of season 5 episode 7. Basically the finale, but written by someone who actually cares about queer representation. Mike did NOT deserve that absolute assassination and I WILL be doing him right.
In other words, a fix-it fic based on my last byler theory on my YouTube channel (@i.dontknowhowtodance, the period is IMPORTANT), in which we get a Mike-central finale where byler is canon. I do want to clarify I only watched the finale once and I refuse to watch it again so I might get some plot points wrong but you guys don't care anyway because no one likes the finale.

“Hey,” Mike interrupted. "Crazy together, remember? I'm not letting you go crazy alone. Never alone." Mike's own cheeks warmed up. He couldn't believe this was happening. He felt so stupid. His thumb mapped Will's side of the face, feeling from his cheekbone to his jawline and looking in awe, wiping stray tears every once in a while.
“Crazy together." Will finally responded, leaning into Mike's touch.
Or: Mike deals with his feelings for Will and internalized homophobia.

Silence. Hungry, carnivorous—or maybe cavernous, vast and lined with teeth, ready to bite. The quiet before the storm, the gasped breath in before the heart stops. Tragedy tastes bitter. Blood tastes like pennies. Both are in the air, promises coating the tongue. Something bad is about to happen.
From beneath the bed, something reaches out—a mass of darkness, a shapeless nothing—and it grabs Mike by the wrist, yanks him forward. Mike chokes on a yelp and flails his arm free, blood dripping from where the shadows grabbed him, like the touch of darkness has split him open. He tries to scramble away, unfolds his legs to kick himself back but only makes himself easier, more vulnerable. The unidentifiable mass encircles Mike's ankle, and he screams something agonized, terrified—and then it pulls Mike, clawing at the carpet with his bloodied fingers, under the bed.
This time, the silence isn't hungry. It's satisfied.
will starts entering the mindscape in his dreams on the same night that mike gets taken by vecna. this is probably the least confusing part of everything that happens after.

He looked back to the lake, a clear image of two police men pulling something out of the water. Someone. His breathing sped up, each inhale sharp and panicked. He recognised the jacket. He looked back and forth between the kids huddled behind the truck and the body being dragged onto the shore.
