They were pulling their sari around Dubinsha as they heard a floorboard in the kitchen creak. Adrenaline spiked double fold and they tucked Dubinsha into the shower corner swaddled in the sari, pulling a hammer out from under the sink, holding it aloft double-handed with the claw towards the bathroom door.
Shallow, rapid breaths shook their body as they mentally tracked where the intruder was, mentally penalizing themself for not grabbing the phone.
