When Revan said that dark days were ahead for the galaxy, Darth Nox certainly didn’t think he meant this.
"I...I need to reestablish order in my life," Lana Beniko said with a suspiciously apologetic expression. An uneasy feeling started to grow in the pit of Nox's stomach. "That means doing away with any...intricate entanglements."
And just like that, it was over. It had been hard to believe at first, Nox thought Lana might be playing an elaborate joke on her. But Lana never joked. And she really wanted to throw away everything they had together, just for a new job. Somehow this hurt worse than every previous backstab and betrayal, worse than Zash trying to possess her, worse than Thanaton trying to eradicate her and her friends, worse than every insane thing the universe had thrown at her. So she did the only thing she could to keep the anger and grief from reducing her to a sobbing mess. She grabbed her lightsaber and went out to kill something.

I was not really clothed appropriately, but the grim-faced butler was nowhere to be seen, so I opened the door. The image I saw before me had strange effects on my psyche. Death was on the doorstep, quite literally. I was looking straight down the barrel of a Colt Police Positive .38, which had been positioned so as to be at the eye height of whoever came to answer the door. My gaze traversed the length of the gun and then to the face of the figure holding it. The identity of the person holding me hostage sent shock, guilt and then fear coursing through me. But the most surprising thing was that the man on the other end of the pistol looked just as rattled as I was.

The lights flickered and were then extinguished, casting the house into total darkness. Jay Gatsby looked up from the papers he was reading and stared into black space, looking for any objects he could identify. Sighing, he got up from his desk and carefully made his way through the room to the space were he thought the floor to ceiling window should be. Gripping the thick velvety curtains, he yanked the fabric aside to reveal the moonlit gardens below. Beyond the hedges, the electric lamps in the street had died, no longer emitting their usual bright radiance. Gatsby sighed again. It was the second time this month the electrical system had failed. He would have to get someone to check it. Gatsby’s gaze drifted down to the little bungalow beside his grand mansion. It was dark there too, no light to be seen. All of a sudden, the front door swung open and a young man stepped out. After quickly glancing down the street, he disappeared again. Gatsby smiled as an idea came to him. Maybe he wouldn’t have to be so lonely tonight after all.
