Summary
This story began with a simple question, could the phantom of the opera have turned out better if he had a positive role model in his formative years?
And somehow 10,000 words later I ended up with a story about Valvert becoming gay parents to a child phantom.

Summary
"He couldn’t kill a man, but what else was there to do besides letting him go and facing the rest of his life in prison? Valjean felt sick at the thought; why couldn’t Javert give up this ridiculous chase? As he watched the other man blinking away tears, an absurd idea came to mind. If he acted as the hunter instead of the prey, perhaps he could avoid this horrible fate."
After Valjean convinces Marius to walk away from the barricade, he intervenes when the students threaten to kill Javert. Yet, after Javert swears he won't give up the chase, Valjean impulsively forces the inspector to come with him. He has no plan, other than to hold Javert so he won't be forced back to prison.
Feat. Stockholm Syndrome, a slightly sadistic 98!Valjean, Javert's diminishing faith in The Law, enemies to lovers, and unhealthy dynamics.

Summary
He runs his fingers through Javert’s hair - still as beautiful as the day he left him, but slightly changed in colour. It's no longer the deep black of the young guard Valjean remembers, nor is it fully greying yet; a thin veil of a metallic shine has settled over the dark river of silk, creating a shade not unlike the colour of the gun he threatened him with not two hours ago.

Summary
It has nearly been a year since that night on the bridge where Javert had stepped down and allowed Valjean to teach him friendship and mercy. In the months between, he has settled into Valjean's spare bedroom and has come to appreciate and even crave the company of the man he spent decades chasing. He is content and wants for nothing save for there to be less paperwork crossing his desk and less of Cosette's husband in his presence.
Until, quite by accident, he sees Valjean as a flesh-and-blood man for the first time with needs like any other; needs that Javert finds himself echoing, reciprocating, and craving even more of. A man does not crave even the barest touch of his mere friend, so what is this emotion that fills Javert's chest until Valjean's fingers are wiping tears from his face?

Javert was never told that he was a breeder. For viriles like Valjean, it's blatantly obvious. But for this virile in particular, he smells Javert's scent and finds himself fantasizing about a pregnant Javert. Soon, despite all of his restraint, his efforts to redeem his soul would be in vain.

Summary
That night on the parapet, Valjean forces Javert to live. Some time later, Javert finds himself returning the favor.
"Do you think," Javert said slowly, in a tone that perhaps meant to mock but trembled with another emotion entirely, "that once you have saved a life, you must also save that man's soul?"
"I know nothing of saving souls," Valjean said. "My soul was bought for God, not saved. But it is my belief that you are better than the fate to which you have consigned yourself."
