The fan signing had gone well. Zoey spent nearly an hour chatting with fans, signing albums, scribbling goofy doodles, exchanging inside jokes with longtime supporters, and even pausing to reassure a shy teen that her own art was amazing. Every time she laughed, Mira stole a fond glance, and Rumi beamed, soaking up the warm energy. Eventually, though, the mood soured. She remembered how back in high school Tina and her friends would corner her at her locker, mock her thrift-store clothes, call her a psycho artist, spread rumors she was violent and unhinged just for being weird. Those memories burned as she saw them now, Tina and her old clique, waltzing up with smug little grins that made her stomach turn.
“Wow,” Tina drawled. “Zoey the rapper now? Still making up nursery rhymes?”
Zoey didn’t miss a beat. “Cute you came all this way on your lunch break. What is it now, cashier at a store that sells broken dreams?”

Zoey sat still on the too-tall chair, her legs numb, fingers twisted into the hem of her dress until her knuckles went white. No one asked how she was. No one asked what she wanted. She just sat there. Listening. Absorbing.
Her mother was yelling again. Her father was laughing in that fake, sharp way that meant he was angry and trying to pretend he wasn’t. The judge looked tired. The lawyers looked bored. Everyone had folders and coffee. Everyone had opinions.
“You don’t love her.”
“You only want her so you don’t have to pay me.”
“She cries every time she leaves my house.”

This is written in the style of an episode from the 1964 sit com (with some added sexiness that you know the show would have included if they could have). Everything is canon to the show, not the movies, so, for instance, Pugsley is older than Wednesday. I think it could work for any version of them, however.

Now Mira stood outside Zoey’s door, heart tapping a frantic rhythm under her ribs. The hallway felt too quiet. Every creak of the floor echoed like it might be footsteps—but it never was.
She knocked, light but clear. “Zo?”
No answer.
She hesitated, then knocked again. “Zoey?” Her voice cracked a little on the full name.
Still nothing.
Her hand stayed on the door longer this time, like maybe Zoey could feel it. Like maybe that would be enough.
“I didn’t mean what I said like that,” she said softly. “I mean—I meant the words, yeah. But not like that. Not to make you feel like you were too much.”
Her voice faltered.
“I was frustrated. Not with you. Just… with how you kept saying you were fine. And I know that’s what you do, but—” she exhaled, her forehead pressing lightly against the door. “You don’t have to pretend with us. With me.”
She knocked once more, more tentative this time. “Zoey…?”
Silence.
Her hand dropped to her side, guilt crashing back down like a wave.
“…Yeah,” she muttered. “I deserve that.”
or.
Zoey gets sick, tries to hide it, and convinces herself that Mira and Rumi have enough to deal with—without being a burden, too.
