Summary

Flagstaff, Arizona, 1998: Fifteen-year-old Sam has taken off, and John blames Dean, banishing him until John can find Sam.
So Dean does what he does best: Uses his brain and body to survive on the street. At just nineteen, though, he ends up meeting with people smarter and stronger than him, and if not for some divine intervention from a time-traveling angel, he might be in some deep trouble.
In this story, Castiel travels back in time to one of Dean's darkest memories and tries to make things right for his friend. Along the way, he discovers that their relationship transcends time.
Because we have so little information on what actually happened in Flagstaff (or even when it happened), I've taken a lot of liberties with this story canon-wise.

After John sacrifices Dean to a nest of vampires to save Sam, Dean becomes a willing blood bag to the nest's leader, and, ultimately, after developing a close relationship with his sire, Dean allows the vamp to turn him. When other hunters come and destroy the nest, Dean and his sire are the only vampires standing and decide to separate for their safety. Distraught and alone, Dean takes to drinking and goes on a killing rampage until he chooses a victim who seemingly can't be killed: Angel of the Lord, Castiel.

This story is canon ADJACENT in that the Winchesters are the Winchesters and Cas is Cas, but the reasons behind John's disappearance, Sam hunting with Dean, and Cas and Dean's meeting are very different than on the show.
After years of abuse and a lifetime of killing, Dean's path leads to hunting not just monsters but humans as well.
Cas, tasked with watching over Dean until Heaven needs him, knows Dean's secrets and is willing to keep them, but Dean is out to exploit Cas' devotion to Heaven and its orders for him in every way possible.

Summary
Michael and Lucifer had their epic battle, and Michael sent Lucifer and his demons back to hell. Now, angels roam the earth much like the demons did, and, as we all know, angels are dicks. Most humans are unaware this has happened, but each angel on Earth has enslaved a human, so it’s up to the hunters to dispatch them as they did with the demons and save the other humans from lives of slavery.
Sam is immediately on the case, but there’s a problem: He thinks Cas has enslaved Dean, so he's out to destroy his former friend and save his brother. Will Cas and Dean be able to fight the angels from the inside while convincing Sam that Cas and Dean are working together, or will Sam exterminate Cas, destroying the love of his brother’s life in the process?

Dean blinks and swallows the food in his mouth, staring at Cas curiously. "I would think...you were either on drugs or going insane, why?"
"I'm not inebriated, nor mentally unstable."
"I—I…" Dean takes in a deep breath, then blows it out heavily. "Cas, you're not fucking with me, are you?"
"I'm not," Cas tells him.
"Okay," he says, "fuck it, let's get hitched."
"Thank you," Cas murmurs sincerely, then picks his fork back up and goes right back to eating.

Dean Winchester is unemployed, living with his brother, and taking care of three kids, all during quarantine. Life has gotten small and a little lonely, so why not have some fun when he can? That fun comes while his daughter, Bea, is making one of her many videos. He has no problem hamming it up to “Uptown Funk” in the privacy of their home—he loves making her and his niece and nephew laugh.
Or, he doesn’t have a problem until he finds out she sent the video to her very hot teacher, Mr. Novak.
Then he has a BIG problem.
Castiel Novak’s life is small, too. He lives alone, and outside of his class time with his students, he doesn’t smile much. That changes when he gets a video from one of his students. Watching her silly dad in the background, he not only smiles, but laughs. He’d love to have someone like him in his life. He doesn’t have any hope of that, but he does hope that maybe Dean would be willing to share the video to spread the cheer around.
Could bringing joy to a weary world bring joy to two lonely souls, too?

Dean wasn’t the type of person who did this kind of thing. He just wasn’t. GISH?? Ugh. The whole thing was just further proof that Dean would do anything his brother wanted him to do. Why else would he be in a Stormtrooper costume, calling up his ex-girlfriend for a private yoga class? Had he been stuck in a rut that long? Given that he’d been pining for the same freakin’ guy, his professor and coworker no less, for three long years… maybe.
Cas was definitely the type of person who did this kind of thing, not that many people knew that. He was one of the most well-respected professors at KSU. His students and coworkers didn’t need to know that he was captain of a GISH team, or that he knitted kinky accessories and made art with his online friends. His TA certainly didn’t need to know either. Just professionalism, of course. Nothing at all to do with the failed attempt at a relationship, three years of pining, and frequent inappropriate daydreams.
A two-person love triangle with online friendships, costumes, and a lot of glitter.

To tie up the loose ends of a hunt, Dean is forced to go undercover and visit Brock Pleasure Ranch, a horrifying establishment that markets its inhabitants to people with ‘monstrous’ tastes.
It should have been a simple thing, to persuade a mer to give him a few scales for a spell. All part of the usual Winchester byline: saving people, hunting things.
But Castiel is far less of a ‘thing’ than Dean expected. He might not be human, but he’s definitely a person.
And that means he needs saving, too.
