The detective was different to Akira, different from anyone else he’d met.
He wanted to understand why Akechi continued to ‘bother’ him at Leblanc, why Akechi found the time to play baseball with him, why he took time out of his day to play private investigator with him running all around town.
What was his motive?
If Akechi truly had no intentions of befriending the others, why even bother with HIM?
“I know you’ll just brush it off like its some bad joke, but I think you look quite charming with long hair.”
In all honesty, Akira really didn’t realize what the hell just came out of his mouth.
but whatever it was, it made Akechi choke mid-sip into his coffee.
For a few moments, he struggled to find air, hitting a fist against his chest multiple times and scoffed, a small grin pulled from his lips for a second, then shifted back to his stern facade.
“You’re quite cocky, thinking I could brush something like that off so easily…”

It was supposed to be a proper summer road trip this year. No combat, no god-slaying, no desperate last stand to save the world from certain ruin. But fate has ever had a habit of stringing Joker away from the peaceful and mundane, hasn't it?
Not that even he could have ever expected to be hailed as the 'Warrior of Light'.
Kind of ironic, really.Or: a Persona 5 x Final Fantasy XIV crossover fic in which Joker, instead of a much-belated post-Strikers break, gets his ass Isekai'd into The Source and somehow winds up in the role of Eorzea's champion. As one does.
(Both Royal and Strikers compliant, for the most part. Spoilers for all that and, if I can actually keep it up, the entirety of FFXIV. Protagonist's name is Ren Amamiya.)

Akira Kurusu was meant to be the leader of the Phantom Thieves of Heart, a trickster, a wildcard, somebody to stand up against the darkest parts of humanity... Unfortunately, things didn't quite go to plan.
At the very least he's still most of those, but with a broken phone and nothing but the voice that recently decided to move into his head to tell him what's going on, he might need to get a bit more creative when it comes to avoiding ruin.AU where Akira isn't a phantom thief but still has a persona... just no way into the metaverse.

Summary
Yaldabaoth kills the phantom thieves, but is defeated when Joker summons Satanael. Just before Joker pulls the trigger, Yaldabaoth offers a deal with 3 conditions.
1. The thieves will be brought back to life.
2. Any memory of Akira will be erased. He'll be unable to reforge his bonds.
3. Joker spares Yaldabaoth. Since Yaldabaoth's power is depleted, he won't re-emerge for a long time.Guilt-ridden over the deaths of his friends, Joker accepts the deal, bringing them back, but erasing the world's memory of him in return.
8 years later, Yaldabaoth is approaching full power and Akira learns that his impending return has weakened the deal's influence on reality. This means that he can now remind the world of who he is.
Akira, still filled with guilt, now sets off on a journey to reforge his bonds with the thieves and restore their memories of him one by one before their final fight against Yaldabaoth.Bookmarked by Cyt4
