Izuku rolled his head side to side, against the wall, while staring at the ceiling. Boredom was common in the Den when no one came to call. He didn’t remember what grass felt like, but he knew it was nice on his feet. He craved the crisp salty scent of the ocean, but he hadn’t been to the beach since he was six years old.
Today was his sixteenth birthday. What a joke. Ryku had come in this morning to remind him with a sneering sort of glee on his face. Ryku owned the Den, and everything in it, including Izuku and every other teen trapped here.

Except the night ends in blood shed and a quirk is used, leaving Izuku Midoriya in the care of his homeroom and English teacher, with Hitoshi already living with them. Stuck in the body of a just barely there four year old and the emotions of that body how will the small family unit handle these changes.
With a lot of embarrassment, strict rules and support.

Peeling skin, black sillouhettes, and grating screams that froze him in place where only a part of it. Their words and dark hymns followed him, crushing his body and soul.
But not as much as his mother did. Inko was prone to using her fists and venomous words to beat him down, and she was worse than the demons who followed him day and night.
"God does not shine upon you,"
The demons repeated it like a mantra, and they were all right. God hated them all, the fallen wingless angels who he damned for eternity. He loathed Izuku too, the boy who could see them. Izuku was cursed with an uncontrollable Quirk, but he tamed those demons. They were his, and his alone.
God sneered at him, and he smiled devilishly back. God had given the demons exactly what they needed...
Izuku Midoriya. A King.

Shota remembers the first time he’d found him. As with most strays, he found him in an alley. Like all alleys, it was dirty, and forgotten, and neglected. Abandoned. On that particular night, it was raining, and cold. He’d been lucky that most petty criminals had decided they’d rather deal in their activities when it wasn’t absolutely terrible outside. It just meant Shota had been crouching out on rooftops for undeniably long stretches of time in a cold, miserable ball for most of his patrol. If he hadn’t though, he would’ve passed the kid, lying face up in that alley, without noticing.

This newfound quirk is enough to save his childhood friend turned bully when he is attacked by a villain made of sludge, all without getting in the way of the heroes. It’s enough to get into UA. It’s even enough to protect him from those that would do him harm.
It should be enough to keep his mother around – to make her love him. It should be enough for him to believe that when someone says they care, they mean it.
But it isn’t. Izuku has learned that no one truly cares. Not about him.
