    Summary

The guy looked between them, incredulously. “This is my fucking house, dipshit.”

    Dick’s jaw fell open. “Bruce?”

He was younger than Dick had ever seen him in person. Doing the math in his head, the Bruce before him would have been about nineteen. His hair was long and greasy, almost brushing his shoulders. Choppy bangs laid across his forehead and kept falling into his eyes. He was so pale. Even for Bruce. His cheeks were sunken in and the bags under his eyes were so dark they could have been bruises.

“No way,” Jason gibed. “This skinny rat is Bruce?”

Bruce scowled. “Who’re y'calling a rat, ya' fuckin' jagoff?”

“What the fuck did you just call me?”

    -- -- --

Jason and Dick find themselves eleven years in the past. They thought their night could not get any worse. Until they make contact with a Bruce that seems to be in an even worse position than them.

    Summary

When Hal accidentally causes Batman to break his favorite mug, it leads to an unexpected conversation where he discovers that Batman isn't quite as unshakable as he once thought.
    ---
"Why does this mug mean so much to you?" he asked at last, his curiosity getting the better of him. "Seems like it would be easier to replace it with another mug. Something more tasteful."

He looked ready to punch Hal after that comment. His mug might not be pretty, in fact, it was quite a mess by most people's standards. After all, it was bright red, green, and yellow, with little bird-shaped doodles drawn across it. But it was his favorite. It was an ugly, cheery mug which Bruce cherished more than anything else at the Watchtower. No one knew why.

"I can't replace it," Bruce told him eventually. "Ever."

"Why not?" Hal questioned. He knew he was pushing his luck, but he couldn't help but be curious about what could be so special about this mug that it made Batman of all people sentimental.

Bruce hesitated before revealing the truth. "My son made it for me."

    Summary

“Why would I? You know damn well, Clark. Why the hell wouldn’t I? I can’t be Batman anymore, and what the fuck is Bruce Wayne any good for? I don’t want to be Bruce, and— and if I’m not Batman and I don’t want to be Bruce, what else is left?”

Clark feels like his ribcage is being pulled apart, like someone has wedged the jaws of life between his bones and nicked his heart in the process. His chest is flooding, and it’s difficult to speak when his throat is filled with blood.

“Be Dick’s father,” he says, quietly, desperately, frantically. “Be his father, Bruce. He needs you.”

    Summary

Hal’s mug fell to the floor, shattering the fragile porcelain and spraying coffee all over the floor. His heart hammered painfully against his ribs as his adrenaline spiked to new heights. Rapidly tapping the keys, he tried to bring up another camera with a view of the building. A new camera’s feed appeared on the screen and Hal’s previously vibrating heart froze and fell down an elevator shaft. The building wasn’t a building anymore. It was little more than a smoldering pile of rubble. The surrounding buildings had also received significant damage and were on the verge of collapse. There was no way a mere man could survive that explosion.

    Batman was dead.
