Jackie never asked for this. She never asked for some advanced scarab to attach itself to her spine, she never asked to become Blue Beetle at sixteen, and she certainly never asked to get tossed around like a rag doll by a monster made of rock.
She's no better at this then she was when she first started two months ago, it seems.
The armor can take a beating, the beetle says. Well, no, it says 'Our armor is compensating for your short comings, Jackie Taylor', but physically, she's fine.
Until that rock monster explodes, and she made the foolish mistake of taking her armor off, thinking she'd won.

She took in just the right amount of information to pass with flying colors in high school, but she never cared about any of it. Then the wilderness happened. Nine grueling, torturous months that left her down four toes, two fingers, and a right ear. Then Nat happened. And somehow, through all of that, she gets back and finds out that bacteria are just about the most fascinating thing.

3. Soccer runs through her veins more than her own blood.She preferred to run those sentences through her head like a mantra when times were tough. But by God, was it hard to think over the constant beeping of the fryers.

Jackie works a fast-food job her senior year of high school, both to make extra cash and to spite her parents. She regrets several things, cheers Nat up (and gets cheered up), gets flirted with, yelled at, makes eleven hours' worth of minimum wage, and dances in the rain. Not necessarily in that order.

The store has started to smell like a prison cell, and soon enough Callie was going to be wearing orange and black. She'll be forced to exercise at 4 AM, and eat an absolute slop of an oatmeal dinner, and shower with like, twenty other people. She'll barely see her dad, never see her mom, Ilana will visit every other weekend-

Summary
There was something to be said about the situation Wednesday found herself in. The world around her felt fabricated, nonsensical, and torturous, and not in a fun way.
Outdated forms of transportation don't suddenly appear where there was once none. Certainly not ones that defied the laws of physics, with train cars disproportionally larger on the inside when compared to the outside, with ridiculous riddles and requests found in each one. Somehow, the far too bubbly, loud, and excited blonde next to her wasn't her biggest problem.

Honestly, Sara didn't really mind the 3 am calls to the hospital. She kind of expected to get them, being on call and all. The lack of cars on the road and (relatively) peaceful ride to Starling General Hospital was quiet, almost quaint.
And sure, she could spend the time dwelling on anything, on how there's a picnic basket sitting on her table, or on the last letter she left Nyssa. But no. She just liked watching the city flash by while she pushed her motorcycle to go just that little bit faster.

Max likes El.
'Like' feels like such a weak word. What she feels for El is too strong to just be 'like'. (Considering it to be anything else is terrifying.) She has known this. It is fact. She's known since she woke up from her coma, unable to see anything in that hospital bed and panicked, until she heard El's voice next to her, and she realized maybe not everything had gone to shit.
But this? This has got to be the worst idea Nancy has cooked up yet. Because prom? Baring the obvious, (she can't SEE), El doesn't like her back, and Max really doesn't want to make a fool of her herself and lose her best friend in one fell swoop.
No, she's content to be on the sidelines, where she can listen to El's voice, let it wash over her like honey, no matter how badly she's greedy for more.

If you had asked Haley where she wanted to be stationed, a Turian research cruiser wouldn't have been the answer that came out of her mouth. It was far from home (or what was left of it) and really, she had wanted to do her digital scouting on a dreadnaught. She would've felt safer, that way.
But Emily got moved here, something to do with her research on the metal the Reapers were made out of. Haley didn't really know, and there wasn't a whole lot of time for her to ask in today's world. And Haley wasn't going to be separated from her, not after what happened to Benning.
But she really was starting to curse the only family she had left when alarms started ringing and the emergency power turned on. The red light did terrible things for her mandatory alliance fatigues.

As a kid, she and her sister used to question what kind of person their soulmates would be. The blank canvas across their hearts where the three words would be written, the three things their soulmates would love most about them. Shepard thinks less about those words now, knowing that her sister's soulmate had lost their other half. She'd more or less given up on the 3 words, written in neat writing where her heart was across her chest.
Tali knew that, realistically, there was someone out there that was designed to be her other half and love her for the qualities written on her chest. But she also knew that this galaxy was massive, and finding someone who loved her, rather than hated her, for them seemed almost impossible at the rate she was going at. With her pilgrimage rapidly approaching, the idea of the perfect romance ran further and further away from her.

That didn't stop the crew of the SSV Normandy from inviting themselves to the house every Christmas. Not that she was complaining, but it made for a lot of chaotic company in such a small space. And at least 7 kids running around + Grunt.
